Brawlers are the First Sweep Victim of the Year

The Sox had a solid effort on the field, on the mound and in the batter's box on Sunday as they swept the expansion Brawlers 5-1 and 6-2. The Sox ran wild in the first game, with Eric Guise nabbing four bases, and Brian Freiland setting a career high with two stolen bases - effectively doubling his previous season high. Rumor has it that his bunt base hit was a career first as well. It must be the shoes.

In Game 2, it was Bret Binder's time to shine at the plate as he made a push for the Pudding Lane player of the week prize. He went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. The former Red Sox ace, who is recovering for two shoulder surgeries, shows us he's also a weapon in the lineup.

Red Sox Start With a Split

The Red Sox 2011 season started with a convincing 14-0 win over the expansion Muckdogs that featured fourteen walks and four HBP earned by the offense. Eric Guise picked up where he left off in 2010 and pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win. Joe Gorman pitched a scoreless 5th and the game was called due to time constraints for the field. Leadoff hitter Steve McDermet reached base four times and scored four runs.

The second game was a different story as the Muckdogs pitcher Josh Gansky kept the Sox hitters off-balance all game while holding them to two runs and earning the Muckdogs' first franchise win, 5-2.
