Red Sox Win a Pair of Nailbiters

The Red Sox battled the Comets for a pair of one-run wins to bring their winning streak to 11 games.

In the first game, Bill Johnson led off with a walk and scored on an error in the bottom of the eighth to win the game 3-2 in extra innings. Eric Guise pitched his fifth complete game to improve to 9-0 on the season.

The second game featured a once-in-a-lifetime play in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Comets loaded the bases with no outs, trailing by one run. In relief, Joe Malloy allows a lazy flyball to centerfielder Bryan Withrow. With the runner on third base tagging up, Bryan throws a rocket to catcher Steve McDermet who tags the runner out at a close play at home. The runner on second attempts to sneak to third base on the play, but Steve was having none of it. He threw a strike to third baseman Bill Johnson who tagged him out at third. F8-2-5, inning over. Brett Hiett came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh and closed the door on the Comets for his second save and the Sox win 4-3.
