Guise Goes the Distance

Eric Guise threw a complete game to lead the Red Sox 5-3 over the A's in the annual 9-inning Father's Day game.

The Red Sox have taken two out of three from the A's this season, and have given them their only losses thus far.

With the win, the Sox improve to 10-5 and remain one game behind the Colt 45's.

Matt Altomare Tosses a No-No

Matt Altomare made GPMABL Red Sox history on Sunday as he pitched a no-hitter in Game 1 against the Muckdogs. A couple of highlight plays by the defense helped preserve the gem, and the Sox bats provided plenty of cushion with nine runs.

Fellow Ace Eric Guise and Bret Binder combined to hold the Muckdogs to one run in the second game to close out the sweep. Guise also continued his hot hitting with a 6-7 day. He has 10 hits in his last 12 at-bats, to raise his team leading batting average to 0.667.

Sox Swept Away by the Comets

It was an ugly day at the ballpark for the Red Sox as the bats struggled and injuries start to pile up. The first place Comets remained undefeated and swept the Sox 9-1, 13-0. The Sox fall to 5-3, and remain in 2nd place.

The Sox look for redemption next week as the Muckdogs visit Latshaw/McCarthy. First pitch is at 10am, Sunday May 22nd. The two teams split the opening weekend doubleheader.

Red Sox Sweep Outlaws

The Red Sox improved to 5-1 with a sweep over the Outlaws on Sunday. Matt Altomare battled on the mound while giving up six runs, but set a career high with ten strikeouts and the offense provided him 9 runs to work with. Bryan Withrow scored 4 runs and went 3-3 at the plate. Joe Malloy pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning and picked up the save. The final score was 9-6.

In Game 2, Brett Hiett had a solid start on the mound for the Red Sox. He allowed one run on two hits, while walking only one and striking out eight. Newcomer John Mehl picked up his first hit in 30 years as he returned to the diamond after last playing organized baseball as a youngster. The highlight of the game featured Bret Binder's long-awaited return to the pitching rubber after two major shoulder surgeries. He took the mound amid applause from his teammates and pitched a scoreless 7th inning. Bret is third in the league in career strikeouts, and has been with the Red Sox since 2005. Welcome back Bret!

Red Sox Rained Out

Today's doubleheader against the Colt 45's has been rained out. Next week we're off for Easter, so we'll see you in two weeks.

On May 1st, the Red Sox (3-1) will face the Outlaws (1-3) on Neumann University's field at 10am.

Brawlers are the First Sweep Victim of the Year

The Sox had a solid effort on the field, on the mound and in the batter's box on Sunday as they swept the expansion Brawlers 5-1 and 6-2. The Sox ran wild in the first game, with Eric Guise nabbing four bases, and Brian Freiland setting a career high with two stolen bases - effectively doubling his previous season high. Rumor has it that his bunt base hit was a career first as well. It must be the shoes.

In Game 2, it was Bret Binder's time to shine at the plate as he made a push for the Pudding Lane player of the week prize. He went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI. The former Red Sox ace, who is recovering for two shoulder surgeries, shows us he's also a weapon in the lineup.
